Terrible decision. They wonder why our schools are in such a mess.
We used to have one of if not the best education system in the world too.

That's what we need
Britains children being educated by fists like Toby Young.

If you have three Pepsis and drink one, how much more refreshed are you?

You, the redhead in the Chicago school system?

Pepsi?

Partial credit!

I used to work for an academy - which will remain nameless - and the corruption is well known and well documented. Leaders lining their pockets and no accountability. Disgraceful.

Is this going to give the teachers something else to moan about?

Dreadful idea if true.

Why is it a terrible decision, Rylan?

Other than having a pop at the government for doing something what do you know about it?

Re: All schools to become academies in the budget, according to the beeb
It's a terrible decision for numerous reasons, but to list a few:

You don't need any teaching qualifications to teach in an academy

In fact, anyone can do more or less any role in an academy. Want to be a counsellor? Go ahead! And as the teachers jay structure goes out the window, so the head can pay the staff what they like - which is fuck all. So you basically pay idea it's for unqualified monkeys.

There's no curriculum they have to folkow

If you have a child with any sort of disability, be it physical or mental, you're fucked

Academies get run in a sort of quasi 'business' type way with high staff turnover where the focus is in the reputation of the school (or the head) and not the actual, you know, education if the children

Lots of my friends are teachers and not one of them has a good word to say about working for an academy. My wife works in child protection, and has heavy involvement in both schools and academies. Guess which ones don't care about their pupils and are of no help or support whatsoever?

It's a terrible concept

Explain Penneds why teachers like me moan? I work in an Academy and have seen since our conversion the increase in top heavy management and admin staff. Example: we now have a Business Manager on 60K plus. Teaching staff has become depleted, contact hours have increased, real term pay has dropped, pension contributions have risen. At the end of all this are children and I can tell you they are getting a fecking raw deal. That's the bottom line. So, there you go....I'm just having moan, aren't I

I'm not a teacher LAF but I'm on your side. Academies are disgusting. I have two young children and the thought of them growing up having to go to a privatised education system (not, I may add, what you think of when someone says 'private school') and be treated by a privatised profits driven NHS when poorly saddens and sickens me

It's strange really because I don't remember privatising the education system being mentioned on the conservative manifesto. Or junior doctor pay cuts. I wonder if those who voted conservative can get together and pull a vote of no confidence in the bastards or take them to some eu court under sake of goods for their product not being fit for purpose (before the referendum where the public who know nothing about the eu in reality get to vote us out if it)

Sigh

The tory GE 2015 manifesto pledge was this;

Opening at least 500 new free schools and turning failing schools into academies.

Now it looks like there will be an announcement to the effect where every school will become an academy.

As an example the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) runs 67 academies across England. Such academy chains are independent but publicly funded to run schools. AET has charitable status and a financial report up to August 2014 said there was annual expenditure of £333m.

Inspectors say that 40% of pupils in primary schools run by AET are in "academies that do not provide a good standard of education".
"It is even worse in secondary, where 47% of pupils attend academies that are less than good," says Ofsted. Ofsted's breakdown says four academies are rated outstanding, 35 are good, 20 require improvement, seven are inadequate and one has still to be inspected.

Turn failing schools into academies = wash our hands of it and make them no longer the responsibility of the public sector

Re: All schools to become academies in the budget, according to the beeb
It's a terrible decision because there's no evidence that it will improve outcomes.

Here's why it's being done though.

Here is currently a growing crisis in teacher recruitment and retention.

Academies don't have to employ qualified teachers.

End of teacher shortage.

If you tolerate this, then your children will be taught maths by someone who last used a calculator when they were sitting their GCSEs.

Re: All schools to become academies in the budget, according to the beeb
Yes in the budget, and knowing the Conservatives it will be done on a Budget too, a tight frugal Budget.

Academies sounds good doesn't it, its a bit like putting supreme in front of Big Mac it sounds spectacular but its still just a burger with a few more tiny extras, I doubt that the Academies will even have any extras. Academy is just a word to make the masses think that something posh and important is in process when in reality nothing has changed from before, just a clever word.

mentor 2:33 Wed Mar 16
Re: All schools to become academies in the budget, according to the beeb
And yet someone claimed they don't have to employ qualified teachers. Perhaps he means teachers assistants who, as everyone knows, are employed in all schools.
